Um.

As far as paintwork goes, this is already fairly antiqued- doing more would seriously darken up the mask to the point where colors would start getting indistinguishable- the pic really doesn't do things justice, as it's looking far too birght/polished in this shot.

If we're talking distressing it on a purely physical rather than cosmetic level... no. This is a molded leather mask, it's bee through full painting and everything- any actual physical work to wear it down and make it look more distressed would likely ruin the structure of the mask itself- it wouldn't be totally unwearable, but the branches/crown would likely become downright floppy, you'd lose the definition in the nose, and there's probably other big structural issues that I can't think of at the moment.

Price is $50 (USD), not including shipping- if you're still interested, just drop me a note, and we can go from there.

Your painting technique on this piece is really amazing...it doesn't look like leather at all! Looks like some old artifact made of bronze and steel, almost like a primative Celtic design. Very neat.

Which is pretty much exactly what I was going for, so- perfect! Thanks!

Oh man this is very cool! It puts me in mind of something the Lord of the Wild Hunt might wear.. stunning and regal, but there's deifnitely an air of cruelty somehow...

Another gorgeous work. I found the texture a little off-putting, but it does give it the feel of having been wrought long ago with more primitive smithing methods.

A question: This and many of your other masks look fairly rigid for things made of leather. Is it the paint that does that, of are you just working with less pliable leather to begin with?

Well, it's a mix of stuff- we dealing with molded leather here, which means that the leather's been treated to form down into a curve permanently-- it makes the leather a bit stiffer than normal, though it's still got a good bit of flexibility. Plus I'm using leather that's a good bit thicker than your average garment leather. My paints (and other layers) help seal that in as well, so that sweat and humidity don't cause the leather to lose its shape.
